Building Envelope Systems FAQs

We supply products and systems that manage rain, wind, air leakage and moisture during and after construction. The range includes roof underlays, wall underlays and building wraps, intelligent airtightness and vapour control membranes, and tapes, adhesives and seals. Which product suits a project depends on the building assembly, exposure, substrate and performance targets.

An internal airtightness layer limits air and moisture movement into insulated assemblies. An external weathertightness layer helps manage wind-driven rain and wind pressure. When the two are designed as continuous, separately detailed layers, they help protect insulation and building materials while keeping the assembly able to dry out.

Start with the control-layer strategy: how will the design manage airtightness, vapour control and weathertightness? Then trace each control layer continuously across junctions and penetrations. In externally insulated assemblies, one layer may do several of these jobs. In conventionally insulated homes, there are usually two separate control layers, one on each side of the insulation. We offer project-specific technical reviews to help confirm product selection for the intended building assembly.

No. Pro Clima systems are used across a wide range of residential, commercial and renovation projects. These include homes, hospitals, schools, social housing, multi-unit and high-rise buildings, and occasionally Passive House projects. They are also used across different construction types, including timber frame, steel frame, mass timber, structural insulated panels (SIPs) and masonry.

Yes. Pro Clima products are used across a range of construction types and substrates, including timber framing, steel framing, concrete, masonry and mass timber. However, suitability is specific to the product, substrate, assembly and application, so no single membrane should be considered suitable for every construction type. Check the relevant product data sheet, application guide and certification or appraisal documentation for the intended application. We offer project-specific technical review to confirm product selection and detailing.

See product pages for all current data sheets, application guides, BPIR and EPD declarations, BRANZ Appraisals or CodeMark certificates, construction details and specification resources.

No. Our 8 BRANZ Appraisals and 1 CodeMark certificate apply only to key products. Applications and any limitations are covered in each current document. Some products or applications may rely on other forms of technical or compliance evidence.

Yes. Pro Clima’s technical support team can help with product selection, system application and will point you towards our indicative construction detailing for building envelope junctions, including eaves, floors, windows, penetrations and connections between different substrates. This can include helping identify relevant construction details and how airtightness and weathertightness control layers can be maintained continuously. The project team (designers) remains responsible for design decisions and coordination with relevant consultants. We recommend early, project-specific technical review, particularly where a detail falls outside published guidance or control layers are difficult to maintain continuously.

Builders can find product-specific installation instructions, application guides and technical documentation in the Downloads tab on each product page, with typical junction and construction details available in the Construction Details Library. Check the current revision date before starting work, as installation requirements, compatible accessories and certified scope can differ between products and may be updated over time.

Yes. Pro Clima New Zealand offers training and workshops for designers and installers, and building professionals, including Certified Installer & Designer Training and Building Envelope Workshops. Training supports better design, detailing and installation, but does not replace project-specific documentation, design responsibilities or building consent requirements.

Pro Clima products are available throughout New Zealand. Purchasing can be made direct through our online store, or by calling our Sales and Technical team supporting projects nationwide, including regional locations.

Products are also available through our merchant network, including PlaceMakers, Bunnings, Mitre 10, ITM stores, Carters, Fribesco, Hitools, Konnect Fasteners, Mico Plumbing, J A Russel, Ideal Electrical and many other local suppliers.

Pro Clima building envelope systems are specified and used by architects, designers, builders, installers and homeowners working on new builds and renovations where reliable airtightness, weathertightness and moisture management are required. Product selection and detailing should consider the complete building envelope, including the performance and interactions between control layers, substrates, junctions and penetrations.

We recommend a project-specific technical review to help confirm product selection and detailing. Complex, high-moisture or unusual assemblies may also benefit from engineering input or hygrothermal analysis.
